Mervyl Melendez

Founder, President & Director of Collegiate Athlete Advising

As founder of Melendez Collegiate Advising (MCA), Mervyl Melendez brings over 25 years of experience in college baseball, recruiting, and player development. A former Division I head coach with more than 600 career wins at Bethune-Cookman, Alabama State, and FIU, he captured 12 conference titles and helped 75+ players advance to professional baseball—including several who reached the Major Leagues.

At MCA, Mervyl applies his championship-level approach to guiding student-athletes through the college recruiting process. Under his leadership, MCA has helped over 175 players secure commitments across NCAA, NAIA, and JUCO programs nationwide.

A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Mervyl’s philosophy is simple: with hard work, character, and the right guidance, anything is possible.

Jayden Melendez

Director of Development and Communication

Hitting Coordinator, MCA Scout Team

Jayden Melendez brings firsthand Division I experience and a deep understanding of college athletics to his role as Lead Organizer of the MCA Scout Team. After beginning his career at Florida International University (FIU) and later transferring to the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), Jayden learned the complexities of recruitment, the transfer portal, and the balance between academics and athletics.

Over three years at Pitt, he became a key leader on and off the field—earning All-ACC Academic honors and developing a strong appreciation for the value of preparation, adaptability, and mentorship.

At MCA, Jayden uses his background to guide young athletes and families through the collegiate process, helping them navigate recruitment and exposure with clarity and confidence. His experience as both a player and leader allows him to connect authentically with athletes pursuing success at the next level.

Matthew "Matt" Fernandez

Recruiting Advisor

Pitching Coordinator, MCA Scout Team

Matthew Fernandez brings firsthand experience across every level of competitive baseball to his role with Melendez Collegiate Advising . A Miami native and former Division I right-handed pitcher, he began his career at FIU before starring at Miami Dade College. He later competed in the ACC with the University of Pittsburgh, appearing in 43 games along with over 100 innings.

After college, Fernandez continued his career in professional independent baseball, gaining valuable insight into the discipline and preparation required to succeed beyond the collegiate level.

At MCA, he applies that experience to advising and mentoring student-athletes, helping them navigate recruitment, development, and transitions within the college baseball landscape. His comprehensive background makes him uniquely equipped to guide players toward achieving their academic and athletic goals.

Greyson Fletcher

Digital Media, Content Analyst

Greyson Fletcher serves as the Digital Media and Content Analyst for Melendez Collegiate Advising, where he oversees digital strategy, creative content, and online engagement. A former Division I pitcher at Florida International University, Fletcher also played one season at Lynn University and went on to compete professionally in the Pioneer League.

Drawing on his background in collegiate and professional baseball, he brings a player’s perspective to his work in digital media. At Melendez Collegiate Advising, Greyson contributes by editing and maintaining the website, producing high-quality videos and graphics, managing email campaigns, and communicating directly with college coaches to enhance the organization’s recruiting outreach and brand presence.

Luis Maldonado

International Recruiting Advisor

Luis Maldonado brings extensive experience in recruiting and international player development to his role as International Recruiting Advisor for Melendez Collegiate Advising. Currently part of the baseball coaching staff at Park University, Luis plays an active role in scouting and recruiting, helping connect talented players with collegiate programs across the country.

A native of Puerto Rico, Luis has developed deep relationships throughout Latin America, giving him unique insight into the challenges and opportunities international athletes face when pursuing collegiate baseball in the United States. His understanding of eligibility, cultural transitions, and exposure pathways allows him to guide players and families with precision and care.

At MCA, Luis serves as a vital link between international talent and U.S. programs, ensuring athletes are matched with the right academic and athletic fit while expanding MCA’s global recruiting reach and impact.

Peter O'Brien

Professional Development Advisor

PRO Baseball Path

Peter O’Brien is a former Major League Baseball player with over 14 years of professional experience across eight MLB organizations, including the Yankees, Diamondbacks, and Marlins. A 2nd-round draft pick from the University of Miami, he also excelled internationally, earning the 2019 LIDOM MVP and 2020 Caribbean Series MVP.

As the founder of PRO Baseball Path, Peter uses his global experience to provide a trusted outlet for athlete development, training, and mindset growth. Through his collaboration with Melendez Collegiate Advising (MCA), he plays a key role in advancing MCA athletes’ on-field performance—offering individualized development plans, hitting analysis, and professional mentorship.

Peter’s approach is built on trust, discipline, and self-awareness. His mission is to help players understand where they are, where they want to go, and how to get there—with clarity, purpose, and the tools to make baseball a lifelong pursuit.
