With more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience, Mervyl Melendez has dedicated his career to helping athletes reach their full potential. Known for his ability to develop talent and build winning programs, he has coached at FIU, Alabama State, and Bethune-Cookman, earning national recognition along the way.

Off The Field

Outside of baseball, Mervyl is a devoted husband, father, and mentor who values family just as deeply as he values developing athletes. He is married to Aixa Melendez, his partner in life and biggest supporter throughout his coaching journey. Together, they’ve raised two children, including MJ Melendez, a professional baseball player who made his MLB debut in 2022 and Jayden Melendez, a star athlete at University of Pittsburgh.

Mervyl’s impact extends far beyond the diamond. He is known for building meaningful relationships, supporting young athletes academically and personally, and giving back to the baseball community whenever he can. Whether he’s volunteering his time, speaking to youth programs, or guiding families through major life decisions, Mervyl brings the same level of integrity, compassion, and leadership he demonstrated throughout his coaching career.
